At the end of the Liberation Wars, a brave night named Sir Jon Fossoway was honored by the king of Arathorn for his service. The king promised to build the knight a castle, and true to his word, laborers were sent and a castle was erected at what was then the border of the Witchlight Fens. The keep, which was named Moorwatch Castle, was to protect the nearby towns and villages from the foul denizens of the swamp.
Unfortunately, just three years after it was completed, Moorwatch Castle was struck by a rare earthquake. Later the same year, torrential rains expanded the reach of the fens, and the castle sank deep into the soft earth. Fossoway was left no choice but to abandon the keep. Over the years, nature ran its course, and the plants and animals of the swamp reclaimed the stone keep. A decade ago, the Brackmarsh lizardfolk tribe moved into the castle, building their crude village in the old castle yard among the crumbling outer walls.
